Round 4 Phase 2 VLCD #3
Yesterday's Food intake
Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg w/ onions
1 small bowl of Mesa corn/quinoa/amaranth flakes (cereal)
Lunch: 3.5 oz of chicken
1 TBS of no sugar added organic salsa
3.5 oz of lettuce
Snack: 1 orange
HCG dose: 3pm
Snack: 1 apple
Other: 1 piece of sugar gum
Dinner: 3.5 oz of tomatoes
1.0 oz (appx) of aged goat cheese
Snack: one pickle
4 tsp snow cone (not sugar free)
Yesterday's diet did consist of some sugar, a pickle, and cheese. I'm getting really dizzy throughout the day and the small doses of sugar here in there really help me not fall over (if I move my head too fast when walking or talking I lose my balance and fall over). So far keeping bits of sugar in my diet minimized that. I only lost my balance once yesterday but it's still early in this round. I didn't have the second dose of meat protein yesterday but substituted with the cheese. We went out to a Halloween get together at a local shaved ice stand hence the late night pickle snack and tsps of snow cone. I know Dr. S says no pickled food, I'm assuming the salt content is pretty high, but I've also noticed I'm more likely to keep to the diet if I make modifications so I can still participate in family/friend gatherings. I've noticed it's easy to feel isolated on such a strict diet and easily feel excluded from every day life. It's easier to stick with it for a longer amount of time if you're not so hard on yourself and not fret about eating a few things here and there.
I am hungry this morning though. Not starving but definitely hungry. I'm going to go dig up a boiled egg from the fridge. I made a few boiled eggs for hunger emergencies.

Round 3 First Injection Weight: 134.6 lb
Overall weight gain from Loading Round 3: +4.8
Round 4 Phase 2 VLCD #2
I woke up and felt better looking at the scale. I ended up taking the HCG at 4:30 pm yesterday. I didn't wake up as hungry or dizzy this morning which is a good sign. I'm still going to aim to inject the HCG around 1p-2p.
Yesterday I ate an extra orange at night around 10pm right before I went to sleep. I was way too hungry. I ate an egg for breakfast and one of those fudge ice cream pops for snack. I'm taking the magnesium/potassium supplements also.
This morning I ate one egg with a bit of onions and one tsp of salsa (the salsa didn't contain any sugar). I also had a small bowl of quinoa/corn cereal with 2% cow milk. My stomach is already starting to cramp a bit from the milk but I just can't give it up yet. I plan to have chicken for lunch and for dinner.

Hate Loading Days
Today's Weight: 139.2
Yesterday: 136.0
Difference: +3.2lb
LIW 135.6
Initial Weight Starting Round 4: 134.6 lbs
Round 4 Phase 2 Day 1
I got on the scale this morning and almost fell off! Up 3.2 pounds from yesterday. I started loading on Monday. I tried taking the shot late afternoon, early evening to see if time change would affect the hunger I tend to get in the evenings on HCG. Technically I loaded for 48 hours but had 3 shots during that time. I don't know if that affected anything but due to the sudden weight gain I'm assuming it worked. I ate a lot of good fatty foods with the exception of one medium order of french fries and 2 gluten free cupcakes. The rest of the time I ate avocados, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and non-lean meats. I did eat 2 big bowls of cereal though. I know part of the massive weight gain is water retention due to over indulgence on milk. I still hate loading days though. Something that seems it would be so wonderful just really isn't. I usually gain so much weight during loading days that I spend the first week taking off the loading weight! Ridiculous. Oh well. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
It's 3pm and I haven't had my dose of HCG. My husband forgot the syringes at work and I'm having to wait for him to come home. I'm glad I took the other doses kind of late now. But I wanted to take the doses around 1pm.
This morning I woke up hungry. I know most of that is psychological. I wasn't this hungry yesterday or the day before. Starting VLCD makes me all of sudden hungry.
I've already eaten lunch. I had some steamed cabbage with 3.5 oz of lean ground meat. I had one hard boiled egg in the morning and one apple for snack. I've also eaten a no sugar added Healthy Choice fudge bar which I totally forgot had milk in it! Duh, ice cream. It is 100 calories and 5 g of sugar. I was getting a sugar low headache and that I would take the hit on the calories. I don't think I've ever been able to successfully adhere to the 500 calories a day. Hum, imagine that. I was planning to eat about 700 calories instead but since I'm not doing roller derby and skating every day I might actually try to keep to the 500 calories. I can't exercise and not be hungry. It just doesn't happen for me.
My stomach is complaining about the lack of food already. Growl, growl, growl. I'm a bit light headed but feeling better after eating that bar.
I'm not sure what my plan is exactly. The HCG I have won't be good for 23 days and I don't think I'll try doing 23 days straight again. I was much more successful this last round with taking breaks. But every round is different and with my thyroid and liver issues I just never know.

Dia de los Muertos
Today's Weight: 136.2 lb
Yesterday's Weight: 135.8 lb
LIW Round 3: 135.6
LIW Difference: +.6
I gained a little today and I"m sure it's from water retention. The kids and I skated the Day of the Dead parade in Austin and due to hectic schedule I skipped lunch and didn't drink enough water. To top it off I had to get a salad at Wendy's and it had milk products. I was so hungry I didn't care! Hopefully today I can get that under control. I'm the one in the black veil and pearls.
My mother just finished her second round and she also found it more difficult to deal with the bouts of hunger. She lost 12 lbs in 23 days. That's still great! Overall she's lost 50 lbs. She bought a pair of pants today that were a size small! I felt so happy for her. I've given her all my pre-HCG shirts size large and they fit her! It's great to see a 68 year old woman who's struggled with her weight all her life lose so many pounds.
I just finished grilling some vegetables (zucchini, peppers, and onions). I also grilled a few portions of pork, chicken, and beef. As long as I keep "go to" food in the house I can maintain my weight much better.
My mother has some HCG left over and of course I'm eyeing it. During round 3 I did much better injecting for a few days, taking a break for a few days. Part of the reason why I think it worked better for me that way was the amount of calories I was burning skating and the demands on my body from working out were too much. My hair fell out and I was crazy hungry. This time I won't be exercising as much as it's off season. 10 more pounds. 125 was my goal. Actually it wasn't so much the weight as it was the body fat percentage. I'm still at 28-29% body fat. I just want to get to the recommended % of 25. I think 10 pounds would do it. If it doesn't then I've done all I can do. I went to the store today to look at some pants and I fit in a size 4. I'm being tossed around the skating rink like some type of rag doll. Some teams don't want to take girls that are under 165 lbs. Again, oh poor me, the pains of skinny girls. I'm kidding. Well, maybe I'm not, it IS painful when I get tossed into the second row of seats in the crowd.
Regardless, I feel a little bad that I'm not following Dr. S's protocol exactly as he wrote it. I keep thinking I'm going to get punished by the Diet Gods for my insolence. It just worked so much better when I chopped it up and took a couple of weeks of a break. I was waiting to gain back all the weight and an additional 30 pounds for punishment! But it's been much easier to maintain and more tolerable to do. I do mean tolerable, it wasn't "easy". I'll decide later on this week. The HCG is the injectable version and won't be good for that much longer any way.

Satisfaction
Today's Weight: 135.8 lbs
Yesterday's Weight: 135.6 lbs

LIW R3: 135.6
LIW Difference: +.2
Phase 4
Dr. S states that in phase 3 and phase 4 patients are to eat until satisfaction and that usually his patients ate less than they did prior to the diet. I've noticed I don't know how to eat to satisfaction. I think those of us who have had a poor diets, bad eating habits, or thyroid issues don't really know what that feels like. I know that during this round I've finally figured out that I can't stop when I feel full or when "I'm happy". I have to stop before then. I almost have to walk away a little hungry. As long as I'm hydrating and drinking enough water I think I feel satisfied about 15 minutes after I stop eating. If I haven't had enough water I keep being hungry. I also serve myself more raw veggies than I think I'm hungry for. That seems to do the trick.
I've been getting headaches and feeling a little faint though. I'm not hungry lately but can feel that low blood sugar fogginess. I try to eat something every 2 hours. It's more difficult at night since I tend to go to sleep late and eat dinner too early. But I have a difficult time eating if I'm far from home since my diet is so restricted still. No gluten, no nuts, and very little or no dairy. I start getting stomach cramps almost immediately if I eat anything with those ingredients. I start relating food with pain. Mexican sweet bread would bring me to tears, I was so sad I couldn't eat it. Now I see it and I'm somewhat repulsed by it since all I relate it with is stomach cramps (gluten). A few days ago I went -1.0 from my LIW. I've never done that in phase 4. It's very frustrating. I have mixed feelings about food. I'm feel weary and cautious before I put any food in my mouth. Could there be any hidden gluten, nuts or dairy in it? What about cross contamination? I even got cramps after taking a sip off of my daughter's drink through a straw she had drank out of while she was eating a Subway sandwich. That's ok though, with time I know I will learn how to keep that from happening and hopefully it will help keep me healthy. No donuts for me.

LIW Round 3: 135.6
LIW Difference: +1.6
Appx. 3 weeks into Phase 4
Yesterday I noticed a little bit of a gain, I was getting close to going over the 2 lbs from my last injection weight. I've changed the brand of milk I was buying and it's upset my stomach so I think I'm retaining water. I'm not able to consume alot of cow milk but if I do the Costco organic brand I can tolerate a moderate to small amount of milk in my diet. I've also been staying clear of fresh cheese and opting for an aged cheese instead. I just can't give up milk all together. I can't find a comparable alternative. Hemp milk, goat milk, coconut milk and of course all the nut milks have just not held up to the taste test.
I did try eating some almonds the other day to test out my nut intolerance. Nope. Can't do it. My daughter was sitting close by and actually asked me if my stomach was hungry since she could hear it clear across the room. I told her my stomach wasn't hungry but angry. Really angry. Did anyone else find out they had a nut intolerance after doing HCG? I still have tons of almond flour left too. :(
My mom is doing her second round right now. She's lost 10 pounds in about 10 days. She's doing a great job and I'm so proud of her. She's always struggled with her weight. She is now 68 years old, has knee issues and never exercised during her younger years. She's lived a very stressful life, especially during our country's civil war. I respect her and admire her perseverance. She lost about 25 pounds in round 1. All her cloths look so big on her now. She's only 4ft 9in so it makes a big difference. I can't wait to see how much she loses this round. 68 years old too! Shows you're never too old to start getting healthy.
The skin issue is going to be a big issue for her also. She hasn't come to that point yet but I'm not reading anything too positive on the internet. I keep reading that losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time is bad for your skin. Blah blah, ge'ez... everyone's a critique. What I've read so far is that you should try to strength train and build muscle, drink a lot of water, try over the counter creams and if all else fails just cut it off. Pound of flesh type thing. Surgical intervention. Eek! I'm not going to go that route. I'll keep researching.

Check In
Weight: 137.0
I was a bit hungry the past few days and craving a bit more junk food than usual. I'm back to making better food choices.
I'm happy with the reshaping the HCG diet has done for my body. Pretty neat. Now I'm just dealing with the excess skin. Trying to keep the skin hydrated with lotions and such. Hopefully it will keep shrinking as time goes by.
